TUNEFUL SEQUENCE

The TUNEFUL SEQUENCE PROGRAM is based on Orff Schulwerk -
a holistic approach of teaching children music through singing, storytelling, movement, rhythmic work, instrumental ensembles, improvisation and music theory. This sequential program is designed to grow with your child, as they learn to express themselves musically in increasingly challenging (but still fun!) ways. Classes are based on the idea that all children have an innate musical sense and need only a little guidance to nurture that ability. Class times vary by semester. Please call for more information at 212-753-8811.
Semester tuition: $640 plus $45 registration fee

LEVEL I    Ages 18 months - 3 years
These play-oriented classes emphasize movement and singing and introduce age-appropriate pitched and non-pitched instruments. Children learn to recognize musical symbols and note patterns. Maximum six students per class.

LEVEL II    Ages 3 - 4 years
Children are ready to explore rhythm, pitch, melody and note reading in a more in-depth and independent setting. As they progress, children are introduced to the recorder. Maximum eight students per class.

LEVEL III    Kindergarten - 1st grade
Children learn to create music in small instrumental ensembles, and improvise melodies on solo instruments such as the piano and recorder. Music theory games are played, focusing on note recognition, rhythmic training, musical form and solfege. Maximum nine students per class.

LEVEL IV The TBMS Tuneful Ensemble    2nd - 6th grade
The TBMS Tuneful Ensemble is a performance group that performs written compositions and improvised pieces on a variety of pitched, non-pitched and solo instruments. Students learn music theory by analyzing each performance piece for overall musical form, rhythm, intervals, scales, modes, notation, and chordal structure. Maximum nine students per class.
