What makes our Adult Program different?
By joining our adult community, students get the support they need to develop skills and musical interests, and achieve personal goals.
Performance Hour for TBMS Adults
These informal performance opportunities and social gatherings are open to all TBMS adult students. An accompanist is provided and available to rehearse with participating students one hour before each performance. Enjoy sharing what you are working on (at all levels) with your peers in the TBMS adult community.
First Thursday of every month at 6:30pm.
Discounted Practice Rooms
Enjoy the ability to retreat from the bustling city with your instrument at Turtle Bay Music School. Adult students have the perk of renting practice studios throughout the week and between classes at a 50% discounted rate.
Master Classes
Selected TBMS students will perform for a guest artist, who will provide feedback for improved performance. Equally fun and informative for performers and audience members alike!
As an audience member, you’ll have the opportunity to observe TBMS students make new choices in their repertoire and enhance their abilities.

TBMS offers private lessons in more than 20 instruments and voice.

FLEX PASS PACKAGE! Looking for a more flexible schedule?
Looking for lessons every other week? Have an unpredictable work schedule? This package allows you to keep up with your instrument study in your own time. Flex Pass Packages include EIGHT 45-minute lessons, which can be scheduled at convenient times throughout the semester. Please call for more information at 212-753-8811.

TRY! CLASSES AT TBMS! What do you have to lose?
Try something new in a fun, relaxed environment with other adult beginners.
Five-week introductory group classes for adults available in:

ADULT COMMUNITY CHORUS
Perform a variety of repertoire - including pop, jazz, musical theatre and classical - in venues around our neighborhood.
No experience necessary, as our chorus is open to anyone with an interest in choral singing.
Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm. Registration is ongoing.
TBMS students $75 annually; non-students $150 annually

Advance your studies with basic music theory covering rhythm, melody, harmony and ear training.

ADULT VIOLIN ENSEMBLE BUNDLE UP!
A violin group class for adult students that will focus on ensemble arrangements of repertoire from Suzuki Violin Books 3 through 5 and supplemental repertoire of the same level. Performance opportunities are available at the Performance Hour for TBMS Adult Students in TBMS’s Em Lee Concert Hall. Class times vary by semester. Please call for more information at 212-753-8811.

NEW! YOGA All Levels BUNDLE UP!
This class welcomes healthy beginners as well as experienced students. Individuals have the opportunity to see (and maybe experience) more challenging postures but are always given appropriate options for their practice at any level. Class times vary by semester. CABARET WORKSHOP BUNDLE UP!
Life is a cabaret, so get in on the act! Learn to engage your audience through microphone techniques, stage presence and structuring a singing set. This workshop includes performance opportunities. Class times vary by semester. Please call for more information at 212-753-8811.

GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK BUNDLE UP!
Translate musical ideas from the Great American Songbook into unique vocal solos with acclaimed jazz pianist and vocal coach Sy Johnson. This class includes performance opportunities.

SCENES WORKSHOP BUNDLE UP!
A new workshop for adults looking to bring their vocal performance to life on stage! Whether your interests lie in performing opera, musical theatre, jazz or operetta, this class will explore it all. Class time will be devoted to staging, character development, drama exercises and much more. The course will culminate in a fully-staged final performance in TBMS’s Em Lee Concert Hall. JAZZ THEORY BUNDLE UP!
This class studies jazz theory through the different styles of jazz piano from ragtime to modern jazz, covering the harmony, rhythm and form of each style. The class will include recordings and performances and will be open to all instruments and voice. Students should be able to read music and will be asked to complete occasional assignments.
Wednesday at 7:30-9:00pm, Spring session begins 2/1/12.

LATIN PIANO ENSEMBLE BUNDLE UP!
Group class for jazz and classical pianists who want to learn about Latin music and improvisation. Guaranteed to improve your rhythm! Open to students already proficient on piano.

CHAMBER ENSEMBLES (for two or more students)
Pre-formed chamber music ensembles may register to receive coaching

FLUTE CHOIR BUNDLE UP!
Join other intermediate and advanced adult flutists in weekly 45 minute rehearsals. The flute choir studies and performs a wide variety of repertoire. This class also includes performance opportunities.

Join with adult TBMS students for a casual, evening recital as they share their repertoire and give performances of works in progress.
Adult TBMS students are encouraged to coordinate participation and involvement with their teacher.
This event is free and open to the public.
