Hear It Now! Concert Series

What is the Hear it Now! Concert Series?

The "Hear It Now! Concert Series" is an ongoing music access project that offers free concerts, workshops, classes and community outreach to the entire New York City community.

We invite you, your friends and your family to participate in any—or all —of the concerts listed below. All concerts are free of charge and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

OCTOBER
     

Thursday 6   Performance Hour for TBMS Adults 6:30 PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: A monthly performance opportunity for all TBMS adult students. These performances are free and open to the public; a wine reception follows.  These gatherings are a great way to meet new people and share in the love of music. 

Friday 14   Artist Series: Jia-Yi He, harmonica 6:30 PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: Harmonica virtuoso Jia-Yi He performs a selection of tunes intended to highlight the versatility of the instrument. This concert is part of our Artist Series and is free and open to all.

Thursday 20   Young Artist Recitals 5:00 & 6:15 PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: Special performance opportunities open to all TBMS young artists. Students enjoy sharing what they are working on (at all levels) and performing for their family and friends.

Friday 28   Artist Series: Cory Ramey, viola 6:30 PM
Where: Richmond Room
Description: Classical music has been used on the big and small screens since before Rossini overtures became a prerequisite for cartoonish mayhem. Join TBMS faculty member Corinne Ramey and friends for a program of chamber music from movies and television shows including Gossip Girl, Shutter Island, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Silence of the Lambs and The English Patient.

Special guests: Nathan Bartley, violin, Paul Wolfram, cello and Manon Hutton-DeWys, piano

Friday 18   Artist Series: Matthew Graybill, piano 6:30 PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description:TBMS piano faculty member Matthew Graybil performs a solo concert of piano works.  Free and open to the public; a reception will follow!

DECEMBER

Description: TBMS percussion faculty member Matt Garrity performs jazz with the renowned Joel Forrester Trio.  Reception to follow!

Description: Students participating in our Suzuki Strings Program take the stage, giving solo performances for family and friends.  Prospective students are invited to attend to see our program in action.

Description: TBMS winds faculty member Javier Oviedo performs in concert.  Free and open to the public; a reception will follow!

Friday 20   Suzuki Group Concert 5:30 PM
When: Friday, January 20th, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: Students participating in our Suzuki Strings Program take small group classes to build musicianship and strengthen ensemble performance skills.   Our Suzuki group concerts give these students the opportunity to perform “in ensemble” for family and friends.  Prospective students are invited to attend to see our program in action.

Friday 27   Artist Series: The Composers Concordance 6:30PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: The Composers Concordance, featuring TBMS faculty member Sean Satin, is an organization for contemporary music primarily by living American composers striving to present music in innovative ways with a thematic emphasis.  This program will address the art of song-writing, showcasing the diversity of the human voice and focusing on the development of the relationship between the voice and the composer.

FEBRUARY

Friday 3   Artist Series: Laura Kay, soprano 6:30 PM
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: TBMS faculty artist Laura Kay presents a solo vocal recital exploring relationships between opera and pop culture, and the juxtapositions of their most beloved characters. A reception will follow!

Monday 13   Cabaret 7:00PM
When: Monday, February 13th, 7:00pm- 9:00pm

Description: Selected TBMS students will perform for a guest artist, who will provide feedback for improved performance. Equally fun and informative for performers and audience members alike! Family, friends and peers are welcome to observe our students grow their musical abilities right before their eyes.

Friday 9   Artist Series: Hilary Castle, violin 6:30 PM
Where: The Richmond Room
Description: TBMS strings faculty member Hilary Castle performs in concert.  Free and open to the public; a reception will follow!

Saturday 10   Masterclass Series: Suzuki Violin Masterclass 3:00 PM
When: Saturday, March 10, 3:00pm – 5:30pm

Description: Kristina Musser (violin) offers advanced insight into playing the Suzuki method of violin.

Saturday 24   Cross-Legged Concert Series – Hansel and Gretel, A Children’s Opera 1:30PM
When: Saturday, March 24 at 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Where: Em Lee Concert Hall
Description: These 45-minute, interactive concerts and performances are designed with families in mind!  Join us for a kid-friendly, operatic version of the famous fairy tale Hansel and Gretel.  Sung in English, this performance will be a “treat” for the whole family.

Thursday 29   Artist Series: Zach Mo, piano 6:30 PM

Description: TBMS piano faculty member Zach Mo performs in concert.  Free and open to the public; a reception will follow!

Friday 30   Black Tie Voice Recital   7:00 PM

Description: TBMS voice students don their finery to perform selections from their repertoires.
